Responsibilities

Management responsibilities

The Corangamite CMA is responsible for a 20-kilometre stretch of the Barwon River through Geelong. This includes river reserves from the Queens Park Bridge at Highton to the lower breakwater just upstream of Lake Connewarre.

Our responsibilities include maintenance and enhancement of the river banks and adjacent reserves, as well as providing associated services and facilities.

The Barwon River is one of Geelong's greatest natural assets, was a key to the city's early development and an integral part of community life. Sections of the river retain natural habitat that supports a diverse range of native plants, animals and insects.

Corangamite CMA took a greater management role of the Barwon River in July 2005 as part of revised contractual arrangements.
