Water

Corangamite catchmment is home to major river systems, valuable wetlands and lakes.

The rivers are the lifeblood of our region, providing water for drinking, farming, industry, recreation and supporting a diverse array of flora and fauna.

These include:

  • Barwon River
  • Moorabool River
  • Gellibrand River
  • Woady Yaloak River
  • Curdies River
  • Aire River
  • Yarrowee-Leigh River.

Our lakes and wetlands include Australia's largest permanent salt lake, Lake Corangamite. One of the region's internationally significant Ramsar-listed sites along with the Lake Connewarre complex and Swan Bay on the Bellarine Peninsula.
