Monitoring & Evaluation
The Waterwatch program aims to be an important part of the monitoring and evaluation components of the Corangamite CMA by providing water quality data and community involvement.
Using an effective monitoring program, the Corangamite CMA measures change in the condition of assets and evaluates the effectiveness of river health restoration activities eg Environmental Water Program and River Health operations. Community-generated data provided by Waterwatch volunteers are valued by the Corangamite CMA in monitoring and evaluating these works.
An important role of the Waterwatch program is raising monitor skills and knowledge. In Corangamite, refresher training and quality assurance activities are combined with topical information sessions in different parts of the region. Community members can then network and learn from one another, and the social setting makes their experience more memorable. Increasing the capacity of community groups to work together with improved skills and knowledge is an important Natural Resource Management outcome.
