Waterways Protection Program 2016-2020

The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA) as the regional caretaker of waterway health, is responsible for coordinating programs to protect and enhance waterways (rivers, streams, estuaries and wetlands). The Corangamite CMA seeks to partner with interested land managers and community groups who are committed to achieving the protection of their local waterways through our Waterways Protection Program 2016-2020. The focus of the program will be to improve waterways by a range of on ground actions, including, but not limited to; excluding stock, removing willows and other woody weeds, managing pest plants and animals and protecting or re-establishing indigenous vegetation.

Project Eligibility

Waterway restoration works are targeted towards ‘priority waterways’ identified in the Corangamite Waterway Strategy 2014-2020.

The CMA will also work with other motivated landholders, land managers, community groups who do not fall within priority waterway areas. This may be in other forms such as information and technical advice to parties seeking to conduct similar riparian restoration works in adjoining waterways. The CMA also has a small amount of funding available to support projects which may or may not be associated with priority waterways. For further information about the Waterways Protection Program please refer to the factsheets below.

To find out if your potential project site is on a priority waterway and to register an obligation free expression of interest contact either your local Landcare facilitator or the Project Officer, Land & Catchment Health (Anthony Byrne) directly on 5232 9100.
